Holocross originated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania around 1982 and was originally known as Iron Cross. After having released one LP called "Warhead" in a more traditional Metal vein in 1985(it was released on CD as a bootleg eventually), the band shortly thereafter changed its named to the more fitting Holocross and released its debut with a selftitled LP via New Renaissance Records in 1987. This CD, released in 1990 was not available for quite sometime and just until recently did most people come to know this ever existed. While not as heavy sounding as its 1987 predecessor, this recording offers the same brand of wicked Thrash with a bit cleaner production and catchier songs. The guitar work by PJ Kacin is like a damn buzzsaw, this guy was the reason I loved Holocross so much, he has these ways of making that guitar scream like a banshee. The vocals do not hit high agonizing corpse screams like before and do get some track doubling here and there w/ effects (reminding me somewhat of Macabre, actually), they do however remain effective while on a normal spitfire level which was singer Char R.G's comfort zone. I certainly love many of these songs and have indicated by the "\m/" which tracks I would recommend. 8/10 -Abysmal Lord |
