While they did have a scene, UK bands could barely afford to get off the ground. Only Bands like Sabbat (later Skyclad), Satan, Onslaught, the moshier Acid Reign, and of corpse, Hydra Vein were at the forefront. Hydra Vein’s sound was sick, like a faster, less polished Sabbat, with its Martin Walkyer style vocals and bearing influences from Slayer’s Hell Await’s which are very obvious in the track “Rabid†and other tracks such as “Crucifierâ€. Tempo thru the LP does change the personality of the songs, a very cool thing that most 80’s Thrash bands shared and is barely seen in any genre of Metal we encounter these days. This mix of styles goes on and lays down roots in the title track “Rather Death than False of Faithâ€. Speed takes spurts in “Misanthropicâ€, and a much laid back attack but, still heavy riffing on “Harlequin†that even now, 20 years later, can cook up a sick ass mosh pit. There is actually a band site with info on the band which mentions the release of this LP and its follow up ( a rather mediocre release this second LP btw, it just wasn’t the same band anymore) -Abysmal Lord
