Veil of Disguise To be honestly truthful, I only bought the tape at first because it had artwork done by Ed Repka(see his complete works list at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Repka), who had done a lot of stuff for bands on the Combat Records label like Nuclear Assault, Death, Ludichrist , etc. So I figured this was going to be a good one. As it turned out, this was a kick ass release and as things would have it, one that became a Thrash classic that could not be surpassed even with the band's second release. "Into The Mirror Black". As most people know vocalist Warrel Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard went to form Nevermore in 1990/1991. The vocals in this recording are what made it so appealing as, they hit very high notes-just imagine if Rob Halford could hit higher notes. Not something to could appeal to just anyone but, those who really wanted a change from happy thrash to a more dramatic feel also fueled by the very mystical lyrics mixed an original blend of power Metal and thrash. The Jefferson Airplane cover of "White Rabbit" was an odd choice to place here but, being as it may,the metalization of it was something I did not completely get into until some years later, even if it had Dave Mustaine from Megadeth doing an introductory solo (he also produced the recording of the album). All in all, an amazing feat that could not be duplicated and I am glad is still around to be heard. -Abysmal Lord |
