Cacotopia is a 3 piece black metal project hailing from Illinois. I must say every time I see a new black metal demo I somewhat already have a idea of what it’s going to sound like, but in this action these grim dudes have completely proving me wrong . This is a great first effort most of the time I’m quite annoyed with the Repitious blast beats from a drum machine and shrieking, this release didn’t annoy me one bit in fact this is probably the best low budget black metal demos I received in a long time. I like the fact the drumming is programmed well with the clear emphases on the guitars standing out. The vocals are your normal run of the mill black metal stuff but he does throw in some death growls and grunts that give the track more depth overall. I like the underlying guitar work it has a completely different fell that most black metal bands with a similar style, you actually can hear the riff the dude is playing it isn’t meshed together with terrible noise and feedback.

For the most part the tracks have a good rhythm which a lot of bands seem to forget that is what makes for a good song. There are at times some mess ups of programming and weird stops but overall the flow is quite grim. My favorite track is the first “Thy Kingdom Crumbles� that track has more depth and attack than the other; they should try sticking to this formula more than the other styles present in the other tracks.

Overall I was shocked on how much I liked this Demo definitely something to check out and maybe you might see something from these guys in the future.
