Straight from the gutters of L.A. we have Obscene Gesture a simple name but to the fucking point ha-ha. Obscene Gesture was formed from Ex- members of Agent Steel, Gutterthug,Body Count, L.S.N., Detente, and Steel Prophet.  With a good bit of thrash background these dudes are bringing back some old-school style thrash to the public. Their sound is a mix of Hardcore/Thrash I find this is a great relief to know that rap isn’t the only thing coming out of the gutters of L.A., so I say bring on the thrash the more the better.

Starting things off on this demo is a great intro featuring a quote from the movie Exorcist III, I find a lot of great thrash bands have used stuff from this movie “Coven” has parts on a song called “all this bleeding”. After the intro you get a message more than a song really “You Don’t Matter” is a fast punch your face thrash assault pissed off message telling you pretty much “You Don’t Matter”. From the first track to the last you get a good sense that the band isn’t fucking playing around take it or leave it attitude. The best way to describe their sound would be to mix Body Count aggression, Slayer guitar leads, and mix in some Fear and you get an idea of what they sound like.

All the tracks are pretty much to the point and have a really aggressive thrash meets hardcore feel to them. I love all the solos on this demo it really adds to the over mix. I like the fact the tracks are pretty quick which doesn’t get you bored just gets you moshing. The lyrical content is a bit on the comical side but fits really well with the bands message. This cd would be best played on a day when you’re pissed off and you hate the world, slap this bitch on and thrash your heart out. Some people might say this is crap and not worth picking up but for me I love thrash and everything about it, this is everything thrash is suppose to be about having fun writing and playing songs without a care take it or leave it. I see to many bands that over think shit and get way to rapped up in the writing of the songs or name of the band, keep it fucking simple and you will notice people will understand your message better, which in this case O.G. understand that fact clearly. The production is pretty good a little raw but for thrash I don’t think it would sound right if it was sounding perfect anyway. I recommend picking up this cd from the band it will only cost you about 11:00min of your crappy life to let loose old-school style.

8/10

Side Note: People take note if you need help on putting together a press kit or promo package talk to this band. O.G. you guys really have your shit together in that aspect of the business I wish more bands would take the time and do the same when trying to get their name out there.
