What is your Name and what do you do in your band? A:Kevin, I'm one of the guitarists and the Lead vocalist...I also write the lyrics and the bulk of the arrangements. Who are your influences? A:James Hetfield, Zakk Wylde, Dimebag Darrell (R.I.P.), Dave Mustaine, Frank Marino, My Mother (music teacher R.I.P.), Max Cavalera, a lot more...to many to list.... What is the origin of the band? A:West Palm Beach, Florida What is your favorite song to perform? Why? A: "All That Dies", because it's the first song we wrote as a band where I was singing as well as playing guitar...that and the song has a lot of attitude... What is the most enjoyable part about performing? A:The rush of doing something you love and work so hard at and getting a responce from the crowd...which really validates what you've done... Do you have any advice for people starting a band? A:Focus on song writing and make sure the people you play with are friends as well as band mates. Play live as often as possible and don't let anyone sway you from the musical direction thats right for you...when it comes down to it, you're the ones playing the songs over and over, so you better get off on what you're doing or you'll be miserable... What Instruments do you use? What brands do you prefer to use? A:Well, I play Guitar and Bass as well as Piano, but primarily Guitar...I prefer Deans, Jackson Kelly Pros and Gibson/Epiphone Explorers...(my main guitar is a Dean ML), I'm 6'4" so any small body guitars look like kiddy guitars on me, plus I prefer the necks and body shape on them. I also use Digitech outboard processing and 100 watt B-52 head with 2-2x12 ADA cabs loaded with 75 watt celestions. What do you feel your band brings to the scene? A:A large bar tab!...oh musically...hmmm...attitude, a degree of heaviness and good song writing and diversity...absolute mayhem... How do you describe your sound? A:Um...Hard Rock, a bit of Thrash, certainly Metal...you could say we're the bastard child of Pantara and Black Label Society as one of my friends put it! Who are some of your favorite bands to play with and/or bands you would like to play with? A:Locally...Headcase, Responce Negetive, killer bands, we'd lilke to get out with Bloodsoaked Glory, Cyst, Blood Oath, The Glorious Death(again), At Odds With God..... Nationally...Black Label Society, Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Moterhead, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Black Sabbeth, hell, I could go on all day with this!!! If you had to pick a band that doesn't get the respect or exposure they deserve, whom would you pick? A: (Locally)From the Ashes.. hands down! (Nationally)..Strapping Young Lad... Do you have any professional releases? If so where were they done? Do you like the recording? A:No, not yet...we do all our own recording right now... What Band(s) annoy you the most? Why? A:Got all day? Theres so much crap out there this would take forever!! With the emergence of Screamo/Emo bands saturating then scene how do you think you can help change the ongoing trend? A:Continue playing good music and stay Heavy!!! What venues do you like playing in most? Why? A:The Factory (Ft. Lauderdale), The Kelsey Club (Lake Park/Gone now), Classics (West Palm Beach) What's your feel on the whole mp3 or bootleg trading on the Internet? A:Well, on one hand it's a good way to get music out and get exposure for bands, however, a lot of bands are getting screwed by not getting whats due them in royalties for thier work. It's a mixed blessing I guess... What's in your CD player? What do you and your band listen too most together? Right now? A:...Black Label Society-Shot To Hell, Sepultura-Roots, Our CD of Demos, Metallica-Ride The Lightning. What we listen to most as a group?...Black Label Society, Lamb of God, Shadows Fall... Do you think cover art is just as important as the music? If so Give some reasons why? A:It's not as important, but it is important...it's the first thing someone sees when they are looking at music to buy and can influence thier dicision to pick it up and give it a listen... Is there anything else you would like to add to this interview? A:Thanks for the space to yack...gotta beer? |
