Interview With Mike O'Hara of Splattered Entrails
First off I must say that it is an honor to interview one of the most brutal bands from Morgue House Records. 1) If you sicko's would not mind please take this chance to introduce your band to the world out there! Mike) Me (Mike O'Hara) - Vocals, Bass, Guitars, Drum-Programming Paul Licht - Guitars John Gallo - Bass Anthony Bencivenga - Vocals Tyler Lauer - Vocals Ian Stevenson - Drum Programming, Vocals 2) So how long have you guys been playing brutal death metal? Mike) It was formed by me and Anthony back in late 2004. So it's been a little over two years now! 3) Some of your music is very techincal sounding, Who is the master genius behind those amazing guitar riffs? S/E) Well, I'm usually the one recording everything, everyone else contributes here and there but for when we play shows, everyone gets together and we all stand up on stage and do our thing. 4) Are any of you guys in any other bands other then Splattered Entrails? Mike) Yes, Lots actually Lol... Our members consist of members in Expulsive Incision, Kuntsume, Priest Impalement, Road Head and others, there really are too many to name, hahaha. 5) This is a question i always ask all death metal bands during an interview. What are some of your favorite horror films? S/E) The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror, Silent Hill, All the 'Saw' movies, May (Is that horror? Lol), Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Ahhh sooo many others, but, I'm really fond of comedies mostly. 6) How do you come up with some of the lyrics that you write for your band? What inspires you to write them? Mike) To be honest, We've written about a page of lyrics, everything else, is just improved noise sung by all three vocalists, Hahaha. But hey, it gets the job done! And it sounds cool! 7) What is currently in your cd player at home or in your car and etc.? Mike) Last Days of Humanity - In Advanced Hemorrhaging Conditions (Big influence on 'Choking on the Rot') 8) What are some of your major music influences? S/E) The Beatles, Devourment, Necrophagist, Lord Gore, Meshuggah, Nile, Last Days of Humanity, Soundgarden. Yeah, obviously, I don't just listen to metal, but hey, you gotta learn from the roots bro. 9) What's your feeling on the whole mp3 or bootleg trading on the Internet? Mike) Actually, I guess I'm pretty cool with, I'm sure the others in SxEx are also, because, the whole underground scene in which SxEx is involved (the whole underground grind scene) will never end. As long as there's music, and something to record it and play it with, the scene will never end. And people buy albums, and those albums manage to be uploaded and transferred to other computers anyway, so as long as our music is touching ears, we're cool. But in respect to the record companies we work with, we wouldn't upload our cd's and our fans, if you're loyal enough, wouldn't do that either, they'd help support us and the people releasing our music by buying the release. 10) What is your take on some of the newer brutal music that is coming out today? And do you have any favorites? Mike) Well, There seems to be this growing fine line between what's grind, death-grind and all these bands coming around with this emo twist. Now, I personally fuckin' cannot STAND emo for shit. I really think it's pure shit. But there are a few new bands around that are definetely worth mentioning because they are HUGE influences and they're all fuckin' awesome. Job for a Cowboy, Suicide Silence, Waking the Cadaver. Bands along those lines, are really fuckin' cool, but bands who seem to mimic those bands, try and fail because they tend to have this emo style. 11) Do you have a website or link so people can get more info or merch from the band? Mike) Hells yeah, Besides the MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/splatteredentrails), we also have a site that is maintained by me and Paul themselves. (http://splatteredentrails.happyhost.org/) 12) What can we be expecting from Splattered Entrails in the future? Mike) Lots of releases and lots of splits. We're as strong as ever, as we've always been and always will be. 13) Any last statements that you would like to add? Mike) FUCK EMO KIDS. ...And Scene kids. We just wanted to add that, because they're trying to ruin our genre of Grindcore/Death Metal... and it's pissing us off... So everyone thinking of starting a scene/emo/death metal band, Go fucking do us all a favor and shove a hot curling iron up your ass. And we'd just like to thank all the labels, you Jerry for the interview, and all of our amazing fans out there. Keep it strong fuckers! Well guys i would like to thank you all for the interview! Stay sick and brutal!!! http://www.myspace.com/splatteredentrails |
